News outlets report on a variety of health law implementation issues, including an Associated Press report detailing how the overhaul is lagging in the states. Other reports examine questions about ACOs, essential benefits and other specific provisions.

Health Overhaul Lags In States
Here’s a reality check for President Barack Obama’s health overhaul: Three out of four uninsured Americans live in states that have yet to figure out how to deliver on its promise of affordable medical care. This is the year that will make or break the health care law.

Written on January 19, 2012 – 4:32 pm | by Olivia Oom

The January peak holiday rental and cottage holiday booking season is under way and many owners are seeing an increase in ‘what is your very best price for’, ‘would you take £X amount for’ and ‘we only have a budget of £x’ enquiries – sound familiar?

I’m sure many owners have their own ideas on how they would like to respond to these enquiries – along the lines of “Dont ask for a discount if you are easily offended!”.

If you are new to holiday letting and don’t have the advantage of historical data on booking trends, it’s difficult to know when and when not to discount. Here are some ideas.

Awesome V12 Lincoln Motorcycle

Written on January 13, 2012 – 10:12 am | by Brayden Sani

If youre into auctions, and strange but excellent motorcycles, then this might just be the ticket.

Mid America Auctions is offered a 1948 Lincoln Zephyr-driven V12 custom motorcycle, one of two made by Olsons V8 in Illinois.

Featuring a flathead motor derived from the classic Ford Flathead V8 only with the addition of four extra cylinders Dale Olson created this monster bike.

Probably a little problematic in a lot of ways and surely boasting the turning radius of a cruise ship, its still cool as an exercise in what a man can do if he has a dream and a lot of time on his hands.

It may not be the most practical motorcycle in the world, but man, that engine would make all the issues seem trivial once you got it out on the road and heard the sound.

Whether you ride a sport bike or an American cruiser, your insurance needs can get complicated.
We’re here to help you find the right motorcycle insurance, whatever you ride…

Trade Groups Again Make Case to FSOC on Proposed SIFI Rule

Written on January 9, 2012 – 8:31 pm | by Brayden Sani

The three trade groups representing the majority of property and casualty insurers reiterate in a letter to the Financial Stability Oversight Council that property and casualty insurance carriers by their very nature do not pose a threat to the financial stability of the U.S.

The letters, by the American Insurance Association, the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies and the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America, laud the FSOC for its revised proposal regarding the metrics it will use in determining whether a non-bank constitutes a systemic risk to the system.

But they suggest a final rule should be significantly revised to reflect the nature of insurance companies.

The letters were sent in response to a request for comment on what method should be used for determining whether a non-bank is a systemically important financial institution (SIFI) and therefore subject to Federal Reserve Board as well as state oversight.

The FSOC re-proposed the rule, first proposed last November, in response to strong criticism both within the industry and by a number of members of Congress.

The FSOC’s proposed rule and additional guidance “is responsive to criticism that the [first proposed] rule was not transparent,” says J. Steph

According To A Recent Ruling, Appraisal Claims, Like Fine Wines, May Ripen And Mature With Time

Written on January 7, 2012 – 12:09 pm | by Hunter Appel

Recently, the Florida Southern District Court updated its order in Garden-Aire Village South Condo. Assoc., Inc. v. QBE Insurance Corp., No. 10-cv-61985 (S.D. Fla. January 4, 2012). I discussed the Garden-Aire case on April 5, 2011, in Importance Of An Actual Controversy Demonstrated As Southern District Court Of Florida Dismisses And Stays Action Against QBE As Speculative. In March 2011, the Court concluded that the Complaint filed by the association against QBE did not state a claim in which relief could be granted. In its recent opinion from just a few days ago, the same Court granted the condominium association’s request to amend the Complaint, and will presumably allow the case to proceed.

The memorandum order is twenty pages. Q
