A great number of people over the age of 55 are worried about the effects of road rage, as research shows that many car insurance policies do not provide cover for it.
According to independent financial research company Defaqto, 91 per cent of car insurance policies will not provide compensation following road rage incidents. The study further revealed that 92 per cent of products on the market will not offer motorists payouts for car-jacking.
Mike Powell, Insight Analyst for General Insurance at Defaqto, commented that many people in this age group need to get counselling and other therapy if they have been upset by other drivers. He said: “Some policies provide cover for medical expenses and trauma counselling, while others include other benefits such as emergency dental treatment or daily cash benefit for each 24 hours a policyholder is hospitalised.”
Mr Powell added consumers should be aware of certain exclusions, with relatives and friends often excluded if they commit an assault and road rage cover generally being void if the incident was instigated by the policyholder.
